The board is equipped with an Infrared (IR) Transmitter and IR Receiver which can be used to communicate with other devises and other Odyssey Navigator Boards. Two Boards can use the IR communication to develop 2 person games, Laser Tag and other cooperative programs. The sensors can be used for light beam trip detection for security, remote control and many other applications.
The sensors are only active when the IR_Tx and IR_Rx jumpers are in place. These jumpers place the IR signals of yLED and yPB lines. In this case the yPB switch can not be used. The yLED will report transmissions outgoing on the IR_Tx line.
IR receiver
The IR receiver is designed to sense only light pulsed at 38000 hz (38kHz). Other light is ignored. However, bright IR light will limit the sensors operation. When the IR receiver senses the 38kHz light pulses it will pull its normally HIGH signal line LOW.
IR Transmitter
The IR Transmitter LED must be pulsed (turned on and off) at 38kHz to be received by another IR receiver sensor. To so this the analogWriteFreq() and analogWrite()functions can be used.
